The Recall
Fisher-Price recalled more than 4.7 million Rock ’n Play Sleepers in 2019 after the inclined sleeper was linked to infant deaths, and it re-publicized the recall in 2023 as more deaths were reported. The safety theory is that the sleeper’s inclined angle lets an infant roll or slump into a position that can obstruct breathing, a risk that runs contrary to safe-sleep guidance of a flat, firm surface.
More than 100 infant deaths have been associated with the product, making it one of the most serious nursery-product recalls in memory.
The $19 Million Settlement
Fisher-Price and its parent Mattel agreed to a $19 million class-action settlement, approved in February 2025, resolving economic claims tied to the recalled sleeper. The settlement set tiered payments: current owners with proof of purchase could receive a refund of the purchase price, and owners without proof, or past owners, could receive smaller fixed amounts depending on when they bought it.
This settlement addresses economic loss. Claims for a death or injury are separate, individual matters, not resolved by an economic-loss class settlement.
What Parents Should Know
The product should not be used; safe-sleep guidance is a flat, firm, bare surface. For the economic settlement, eligibility and any remaining deadlines are set by the court-approved administrator, which is the only place to verify a claim — not a third-party site.
