The Class Action
In January 2023 a class action was filed in California federal court alleging that Life360 — the family-location app used by millions, many of them children — quietly sold users’ precise location data to roughly a dozen data brokers without meaningful consent. Reporting indicated the practice generated a substantial share of the company’s revenue at the time.
That case was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in November 2023, which ended it. No settlement fund or consumer compensation came out of the dismissal.
The FTC Order Is the Real Action
The more consequential development came from a regulator. In January 2025 the Federal Trade Commission took enforcement action against Life360, ordering the company to stop selling sensitive location data collected from users. That order changes the company’s data practices going forward.
Importantly, an FTC order is not a payout: it does not create a fund or send checks to affected users. Anyone promising a Life360 “payout” is describing something that does not exist.
What Users Should Take From It
The episode is a case study in how location apps can monetize data most users assume is private. The practical protection is in the app’s own privacy settings and permissions, plus the new limits the FTC order imposes. There is no active claim to join.

Answers to the most common questions about this case and your legal options.
Is there a Life360 settlement to claim?
No. The location-data class action was dismissed with prejudice in November 2023, and the FTC's 2025 order does not create a compensation fund. There is no payout to claim.
What did Life360 allegedly do?
The class action alleged Life360 sold users' precise location data to data brokers without adequate consent. The FTC later ordered the company to stop selling sensitive location data.
Is Life360 still selling my location?
The FTC's January 2025 order requires Life360 to stop selling sensitive location data collected from users. Reviewing the app's permissions and privacy settings is still worth doing.
