What Is Deducted Before You Are Paid
Attorney fees, case costs, common benefit assessments and medical liens are deducted. Lien resolution with Medicare, Medicaid or a private insurer often continues for months after the settlement figure is agreed.
The gross tier figure is never the net figure. Asking for an itemised estimate of fees, costs and expected lien exposure before agreeing to a settlement is normal and reasonable.
