What the Lawsuits Allege
Mounjaro (tirzepatide), Eli Lilly’s diabetes and weight drug in the GLP-1 class, is the subject of lawsuits alleging it can cause gastroparesis — stomach paralysis — along with intestinal blockages (ileus) and other severe gastrointestinal injuries, and that the manufacturer did not adequately warn of those risks. A newer wave of claims alleges a form of vision loss (NAION) linked to the drug class.
These are allegations. Regulators strengthened the drug’s label on severe gastrointestinal reactions in late 2025, a development plaintiffs point to and the company frames as ordinary pharmacovigilance.
The MDLs
The gastrointestinal cases are consolidated with other GLP-1 claims in multidistrict litigation in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (MDL 3094), with thousands of cases pending and causation disputes at the center — the litigation’s pivotal fight is whether the science links the drug to the injuries. Separately, a dedicated MDL was created for the vision-loss claims.
Consolidation coordinates the science and discovery; it is not a finding of fault.
What Patients Should Know
Anyone taking Mounjaro should follow their prescriber’s guidance; this is legal-news coverage, not medical advice. There is no settlement or claims fund, so any “sign up for your Mounjaro payout” site is lead capture. A claim, if pursued, rests on medical records documenting the injury.
